Aya Ito Unveils Debut EP Just Might

Japanese American R&B artist Aya Ito releases her debut EP, Just Might, a collection of songs about the search for love and momentous connection with another person.

Encompassing seven tracks, the first five tracks will be released on a separate, English EP, while the final two tracks will appear on another project in Japanese.

Speaking about her music, Aya shares, “Music is something that will always be there for you. There is a song for every mood, emotion, and occasion. Being someone who creates music means that you can be a person to influence others and help them through whatever they are going through, whether it be having fun at a party, a breakup, a fight with a friend, etc. It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve made an effect on someone’s life, even strangers.”

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Aya Ito has been hailed as a force of nature because of her superb voice and her amalgamation of pop, R&B, and soul into lush sonic potions.

Trilingual (English, Japanese, Spanish), Aya Ito has toured throughout the U.S. and Japan, electrifying audiences with her dynamic performances. She made her television debut in 2020, appearing on ABC7’s broadcast special of the Bud Billiken Parade, performing her song, “Don’t Take My Life.”

In 2022, Aya Ito took the stage in ‘The First Afrozons Dubai Soundoff,’ a tribute to Afro Beats hosted by Sheila O.

Just Might begins with “Heart Of Stone,” opening on low-slung, creamy R&B-flavored tones topped by Aya’s evocative voice, imbuing the lyrics with posh timbres. As the song crescendos, her plush vocals soar on potent surfaces.

Highlights include the title track, a deliciously supple tune riding a slow rolling, sensuous rhythm as Aya struts her crème de la crème vocals, at once voluptuous and alluring. Nuanced and under exquisite lilting control, it’s a grand voice.

The final track, “To Keep You,” blends hints of soul with silky textures of R&B, forming a swanky song giving sway to Aya’s luxurious, mobile voice.
