    Controversy

    In 2012, Giaa was replaced overnight with actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee for the role of Gopi Bahu as controversy stirred around her stand to take part in a rival channels show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 (2012). She was asked to quit the idea of switching to Colors TV’s show as her then production house found it be damaging to her soft-spoken image as Gopi. However, Giaa stood strong about her decision even after the matter was assigned Cine & TV Artistes’ Association, which resulted in her being asked to leave on the grounds of unprofessional conduct and breach of contract. However, according to a statement by Giaa, she had quit the show herself.

    In April 2012, Giaa was spotted at a hookah resto-bar with her mother and close friends during a raid that took place at 12 am. Though the police detained 21 other people, Giaa and her family were let go on the spot itself, after she had shown the police her bill which stated that they had not consumed any kind of alcohol nor did they smoke. Following the incident, during an interview with India Forums, she stated that “I don’t even consume ‘Hookah’ as I’m allergic to smoke”.
